Role Overview
The GAP Technician will work closely with farmers to ensure proper implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Agricultural Labour Practices (ALP) in tobacco production. The role focuses on field supervision, data collection, farmer training, and production monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
1. Farm Monitoring & Compliance
- Conduct regular farm visits to assess farming activities
- Ensure farmers follow GAP and ALP standards
- Perform NTRM risk and barn compliance assessments
2. Production Estimation & Surveys
- Assist in preparing production estimates
- Conduct plant count exercises for yield estimation
- Support crop surveys and bale count accuracy
- Ensure barn count exercises are done correctly for accurate production data
3. Farmer Training & Support
- Train farmers on tobacco production techniques:
- Seedbed preparation and hygiene
- Land preparation and pest control
- Proper use of PPE
- Provide technical guidance to improve productivity
4. Stakeholder Relations
- Maintain good relationships with farmers and local leadership
- Support company image and reputation in communities
5. Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare reports and feedback for supervisors
- Ensure all activities meet Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma in Agriculture or related field (Agronomy, Crop Production, Horticulture, Agribusiness, etc.)
- Experience in agricultural extension services
- Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Training skills are an added advantage
Additional Requirements
- Valid motorbike driving license
- Willingness to work in rural/remote areas
- Strong communication and fieldwork ability
