About the Role: Director of Child Welfare Tanzania
We’re looking for a caring and organized person to join our team as a Director of Child Welfare in Tanzania.
This is a full-time role based in Arusha.
In this job, you’ll:
- Make sure children feel safe, loved, and supported
- Lead the team that takes care of the children
- Help improve child welfare programs
You’ll also be part of the leadership team, helping guide big decisions.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Child Welfare Strategy & Protection
As a Director of Child Welfare Tanzania, your main job is to protect and support every child.
You will:
- Create and improve child care programs
- Monitor children’s emotional and psychological needs
- Make sure all care meets Tanzanian laws
- Keep child protection policies strong and updated
- Step in during emergencies and make quick decisions
- Ensure every child has a care plan and goals
Team Leadership & Daily Management
You’ll lead the people who directly care for the children.
This includes:
- Managing House Mamas, social workers, and care staff
- Supporting and training your team
- Solving problems as they come up
- Making sure children’s homes are safe and loving
You’ll also:
- Help your team grow professionally
- Plan schedules and activities
- Make sure family visits are well organized
Working with Government & Community
In this Director of Child Welfare Tanzania role, you’ll work closely with government offices.
Your tasks include:
- Ensuring full compliance with Tanzanian child welfare laws
- Building strong relationships with social welfare offices
- Submitting reports on time
- Representing RVCV in official meetings
Supporting Children’s Future
This role is not just about today — it’s about the future.
You’ll help children grow into independent adults by:
- Supporting mental health services
- Working with psychologists and social workers
- Guiding career choices and education paths
- Organizing activities like sports and creative programs
You’ll also:
- Help young adults transition into life after school
- Stay connected with them as they grow

Requirements for Director of Child Welfare Tanzania
To qualify, you should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work
- (Master’s degree is a plus)
- Registration with TASWO
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role
- Strong Swahili and English skills
You should also be:
- Friendly and easy to work with
- A team player
- Flexible and able to solve problems
- Comfortable living in a rural area
- Positive, with a good sense of humor
