Position: Digital Tools Officer

Duty Station: IITA Eastern Africa Hub Office, Mikocheni, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
This position is part of the PROSSIVA Project (Programme for Seed System Innovation for Vegetatively-Propagated Crops in Africa), a multi-country initiative focused on improving the availability of high-quality seed for banana, cassava, and yam across Africa.
The Digital Tools Officer will support ICT innovation, digital agriculture systems, and data-driven seed system improvement under the PROSSIVA project.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support in digital tool development, ICT data management, and website administration
- Serve as focal point for the Digital Tools and Scaling Pillar (cassava component in Tanzania)
- Coordinate with IITA-Ibadan ICT team to scale and improve the Seed Tracker platform
- Support regulatory authorities in Tanzania to adopt and independently use Seed Tracker for seed certification and self-certification systems
- Collect and analyze usage data and analytics from digital seed systems
- Enhance integration of digital tools among seed producers, regulators, and partners
- Support expansion of the CropVAR AI-based variety identification application
- Prepare detailed reports on ICT performance, usage metrics, and project progress
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field
- Experience in digital systems development, ICT data management, and website administration
- Strong knowledge of databases, digital platforms, and data analytics tools
- Experience in agricultural digital systems is an added advantage
- Proven ability to support system scaling, feature improvement, and user adoption
- Experience working with government agencies, regulatory bodies, or development partners
- Strong analytical, reporting, communication, and coordination skills
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
Contract Information
- Initial contract duration: 1 year (renewable based on performance and funding availability)
