This senior banking leadership role is responsible for leading Citi’s operations in Tanzania, driving business growth, managing client relationships, and ensuring full compliance with regulatory and corporate governance standards.

This Citi Country Officer job in Tanzania is a high-level executive position within the banking industry, focusing on corporate banking, investment banking, risk management, financial strategy, and franchise leadership. The role serves as the main representative of Citi in Tanzania, engaging with government officials, regulators, clients, media, and key stakeholders.

The CCO & Banking Head also leads the banking franchise strategy, oversees P&L performance, supports digital transformation, and ensures strong risk and compliance management across all business lines.

Key Responsibilities

Franchise & Leadership Management

• Lead Citi’s overall country strategy in Tanzania to achieve long-term business growth
• Ensure compliance with corporate governance standards, ethical requirements, and local regulations
• Serve as Citi’s main representative to government, regulators, clients, media, and community stakeholders
• Identify, assess, and manage operational, financial, and reputational risks
• Oversee governance, risk management, and compliance reporting for the legal entity
• Lead talent development, employee engagement, and organizational culture initiatives

Banking & Business Growth

• Manage Citi Banking operations across Investment Banking, Corporate Banking, and Commercial Banking
• Develop and implement a client-driven franchise growth strategy
• Oversee Tanzania Banking Profit & Loss (P&L) performance
• Manage client relationships and deliver corporate finance and treasury solutions
• Drive cross-selling of banking products across multiple business lines
• Ensure efficient capital use and deliver strong returns (RORC and RoTCE)
• Lead sustainability initiatives and digital transformation for clients

Requirements / Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in banking or financial services
• Strong corporate finance and credit management skills
• Experience managing P&L and business operations
• Deep knowledge of banking products including:
  • Loans (short and long-term)
  • Cash management
  • Trade finance
  • FX and derivatives
  • Corporate and structured finance
  • Debt capital markets
• Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills
• Proven leadership and strategic thinking ability
• Ability to execute business strategy and drive organizational alignment
• Experience in risk management and regulatory compliance
• Strong communication and decision-making skills
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
• Fluency in spoken and written English
