Job Description:
Knauf Gypsum Tanzania Limited is hiring an experienced HSE Manager (Health, Safety, and Environment Manager) to join its manufacturing team in Mkuranga. This role is ideal for professionals seeking HSE Manager jobs in Tanzania within the manufacturing and construction materials industry.
The HSE Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and environmental (HSE) systems to ensure compliance with regulations and company standards. The position focuses on creating a safe workplace, reducing risks, preventing accidents, and promoting environmental sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Health & Safety Management
- Develop and implement HSE policies, procedures, and programs
- Ensure compliance with local and international HSE standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO)
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Identify hazards and implement corrective and preventive measures
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses
- Ensure safe handling and storage of hazardous materials
- Maintain emergency response plans and procedures
Environmental Management
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company standards
- Monitor waste management, emissions, and resource conservation
- Promote environmental sustainability and awareness
- Conduct environmental impact assessments
Training & Awareness
- Deliver HSE training, inductions, and safety awareness programs
- Promote a strong safety culture across employees and contractors
- Advise staff on safe work practices and legal requirements
Monitoring & Reporting
- Track HSE KPIs (incident rates, training completion, audit results)
- Prepare and present monthly HSE performance reports
- Maintain accurate HSE documentation and records
- Liaise with regulatory authorities and external auditors
Leadership & Supervision
- Lead and mentor HSE team members
- Support management in setting HSE goals and targets
- Coordinate internal and external audits and ISO compliance
- Provide strategic HSE guidance to management
HSE Budget Management
- Develop and manage the annual HSE budget
- Monitor budget performance and recommend improvements
Requirements / Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 6 years of experience in manufacturing or similar industry
- Professional HSE certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is preferred
- Experience with ISO standards, HSE systems, and budgeting
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and incident investigations
