Job Description

NMB Bank Plc is hiring a Senior Specialist – Finance Data Analyst to support financial data management, regulatory reporting, and analytics within the Finance department. The role focuses on ensuring high-quality financial data, supporting statutory reporting, improving data systems, and strengthening audit readiness across the bank.

The position requires strong technical data skills, deep financial knowledge, and experience working with banking systems and large financial datasets.

Responsibilities

Data Management and Governance

  • Clean, validate, and organize raw financial data to maintain accuracy
  • Collect data from multiple sources and manage financial databases
  • Maintain integrity of customer transaction and financial records
  • Improve financial data governance aligned with internal standards and regulatory requirements
  • Identify data quality issues and support continuous improvement of financial datasets
  • Maintain finance data dictionaries, metadata, and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, Bank of Tanzania (BOT), and tax reporting requirements
  • Design controls for End User Computing (EUC) tools used in reporting
  • Perform reconciliations between core banking systems and reporting tools

Data Extraction, Systems Support and Automation

  • Provide technical support to Finance teams on data systems and analytics tools
  • Develop complex SQL queries for financial reporting
  • Support automation of financial reports using Python, R, and advanced Excel
  • Improve data extraction, storage, and reporting processes through system enhancements

Financial Reporting and Tax Support

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycles
  • Manage data extraction for regulatory, financial, and tax reporting
  • Build automated data pipelines for financial reporting packs
  • Analyze financial variances by tracing transaction-level data
  • Support internal and external auditors with data lineage and reporting logic
  • Manage General Ledger (GL) mapping to financial statement lines
  • Support tax reporting (VAT, Excise Duty, Withholding Tax) with accurate datasets and reconciliations

Systems and Data Integrity

  • Work with core banking systems and related platforms (Credit, Treasury, Trade Finance)
  • Monitor GL integrity and detect imbalances or errors before reporting cycles
  • Participate in system and IT projects to protect financial reporting accuracy during changes or migrations

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Data Science, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, or related field
  • CPA or ACCA certification is an added advantage
  • Data analytics certifications (Google Data Analytics, Microsoft Data Analyst Associate) are an advantage

Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in finance-related systems within banking or financial services
  • Experience supporting financial audits and General Ledger (GL) frameworks
  • Experience handling large financial datasets and statutory reporting

Skills

  • Advanced SQL for data extraction and reporting
  • Knowledge of Python or R for data analysis
  • Advanced Excel and data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau)
  • Strong understanding of IFRS, tax regulations, and accounting principles
  • Knowledge of banking systems (e.g., Core Banking, GL architecture)
  • Strong problem-solving skills for data and system issues
  • Ability to communicate technical findings to non-technical teams
