Job Description
Boart Longyear Tanzania Limited is hiring experienced Underground Drillers for mining and drilling operations in Shinyanga, Tanzania. This opportunity is ideal for skilled drilling professionals with underground mining experience who can contribute safely and efficiently to drilling targets while complying with mine safety standards, policies, and procedures.
The Underground Driller role involves operating mine site drilling equipment, implementing drilling and completion activities, maintaining drilling standards, and supporting operational productivity across Boart Longyear’s drilling projects in Tanzania’s Lake Zone.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement drilling, work over, and completion operations on drilling rigs
- Operate mine site drilling machines safely and effectively
- Move and position drilling equipment as required
- Maintain a safe working environment across drilling sites
- Handle and maintain drilling samples according to company and client standards
- Report equipment deficiencies, damages, and breakdowns
- Follow mine instruction plans accurately to achieve drill line, gradient, and profile targets
- Collaborate with surveyors, geologists, and engineers to optimize drill patterns
- Comply with mine safety laws, regulations, and inspection standards
- Conduct workplace inspections and prepare drilling areas safely
- Participate in safety meetings, prestart meetings, and shift meetings
- Ensure proper use of resources including drill machines, bits, hammers, and water trucks
- Complete shift reports and incident documentation
- Support training, coaching, and development of team members and trainees
- Deputize for the Drilling Supervisor when required
- Assist mechanics when necessary
- Perform additional duties assigned by supervisors

Requirements / Qualifications
- Secondary School Certificate, Vocational Training, Apprenticeship, or college program in heavy equipment operation or related field
- Minimum 3 years of recent underground drilling experience
- Experience in MDR & LM drilling operations
- Knowledge of drill bits selection and performance
- Ability to identify equipment parts and components
- General knowledge of BLY drilling machines
- Documentation and diagnostic tool knowledge
- Heavy mobile equipment operation skills
- Valid driver’s license (added advantage)
- Swahili and English language skills preferred
- Pass Aptitude and Dover tests
- Strong conceptual thinking ability
- Trade background in drill rigs, core RC, grade control, and dewatering
- Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness
- First Aid certificate
- Completion of required induction programs and machine operation testing
- Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement
