Job Description:
Ignite Energy Access is seeking a highly skilled Financial Controller in Arusha, Tanzania to join its Finance and IT department. This is a key opportunity for professionals looking for financial controller jobs in Tanzania within the renewable energy industry.
The Financial Controller will oversee financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, cashflow management, and internal controls. The role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and continuous improvement of financial systems and processes to enhance operational efficiency and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Budgeting & Planning
- Collaborate with the Head of Finance to prepare annual budgets and long-term financial plans
- Ensure alignment of budgets with business strategy and stakeholder expectations
- Provide financial insights, forecasts, and profitability analysis to senior management
Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial reports and presentations for executive management
- Conduct variance analysis comparing actual results vs budget and forecasts
- Deliver management reports highlighting risks and opportunities
- Ensure accurate reporting of full P&L, line of business, and FX reviews
- Prepare Opex variance reports, gross margin reports, and balance sheet reviews
- Support business units with performance insights and KPI tracking
Financial Analysis
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities
- Perform revenue, profitability, and operational performance analysis
- Support decision-making through financial modeling and scenario analysis
- Evaluate investment opportunities and develop business cases
- Review commissions and discounts for accuracy and competitiveness
Internal Controls
- Ensure effective internal control systems aligned with group policies
- Support internal audits and enforce compliance procedures
- Provide recommendations on control improvements
Treasury & Working Capital
- Oversee receivables, collections, payables, and cash management processes
- Manage working capital KPIs and optimize liquidity and banking operations
Tax & Statutory Compliance
- Oversee tax compliance and filings
- Manage tax forecasting and accounting accuracy
- Coordinate statutory financial reporting and audits
- Represent the company in tax audits and resolve disputes
Requirements / Qualifications:
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in financial management
- Strong knowledge of accounting, finance operations, and controlling
- Proficiency in SAP and ODOO systems
- Strong understanding of IFRS/IAS and group accounting policies
- Deep knowledge of Tanzania tax laws (VAT, Corporate Tax, WHT, Customs, Transfer Pricing)
- Experience in business partnering and supporting strategic decision-making
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Strong commercial understanding of pricing, profitability, and unit economics
- Ability to identify and mitigate financial, operational, and compliance risks
- Experience in treasury, liquidity planning, and working capital management
Qualifications:
- Qualified Accountant: CPA(T), ACCA, or equivalent (NBAA recognized)
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field is an added advantage
- Proven experience in IFRS/IAS reporting and statutory audits
- Strong competence in Tanzania tax systems (TRA), including VAT, PAYE, WHT, SDL, WCF, and e-filing processes
