Dangote Industries Limited is hiring a Head of Mines for its Mtwara Plant in Tanzania. This senior mining leadership role oversees quarry and limestone mining operations at Dangote Cement Limited Tanzania Limestone Mines located in Mbuo Village, Mayanga Ward, Mtwara Rural District.

The Head of Mines is responsible for safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of limestone, clay, and raw materials to support uninterrupted production at the 3.0 MTPA cement plant. This mining executive role manages mine planning, reserve management, drilling and blasting, HEMM fleet operations, crusher feed quality, regulatory compliance, environmental management, and long-term mine sustainability.

This Head of Mines job in Mtwara is ideal for experienced mining engineering professionals with strong expertise in open pit mining, limestone quarry management, drilling and blasting, HEMM fleet management, and Tanzania mining regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement short-term, medium-term, and long-term mine plans for all active and future mining lease areas
Manage limestone reserve estimates, geological assessments, and production reconciliation
Ensure statutory compliance with TMAA, MEM, NEMC, and Tanzania Explosives Act requirements
Supervise extraction of mix grade limestone, high-grade limestone, red soil, and raw materials
Oversee overburden removal, mine development, and waste dump management
Lead in-house drilling and blasting operations using Flexiroc D60 drill rigs
Manage explosive magazine operations, procurement, storage, and compliance
Ensure HEMM fleet availability, preventive maintenance, and operational efficiency
Monitor crusher feed quality, raw material blending, and throughput targets
Enforce HSE compliance, slope stability monitoring, and risk management
Collaborate with geologists and survey engineers for deposit management and reserve planning
Prepare annual budgets, cost analysis, CAPEX proposals, and cost reduction initiatives
Submit operational, regulatory, and performance reports to plant leadership
Manage community relations and stakeholder engagement in Mbuo Village and surrounding areas
Lead, train, and develop multidisciplinary mining teams across operations

Requirements / Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (mandatory)
Master’s degree in Mining Engineering, MBA, or Mine Management (advantage)
Valid Tanzanian Mine Manager Certificate of Competency preferred
Formal blasting competency certification required
HSE certifications such as NEBOSH or IOSH preferred
Minimum 12–15 years of experience in open cast or open pit mining
At least 5 years in a Head of Mines or senior mining leadership role
Proven limestone quarry experience for cement plant operations preferred
Expertise in drilling and blasting with rotary percussive equipment
Strong HEMM fleet management experience with CAT, Komatsu, and Terex equipment
Experience with Tanzania mining regulatory authorities highly desirable
Explosives magazine management experience required
Knowledge of mine planning, reserve estimation, cost management, and mining software
Strong leadership, communication, and operational risk management skills
